Blackheath’s Clarendon Hotel Conversion Plans

Plans have been submitted to transform the Clarendon Hotel in Blackheath into specialist accommodation for older people, featuring 77 units, a publicly accessible restaurant, and community‑hire multipurpose space. The scheme also includes demolition of rear sections and new building construction, along with landscaping upgrades including a pocket park and revised vehicular access.

New DLR Train Enters Service

A new DLR train—built by CAF in Spain—has entered passenger service today, following a prolonged testing phase that encountered delays. It comes as the transit agency works to phase out aging stock and plans to increase train frequencies across several branches once the new fleet is fully deployed.

Greenwich/Blackheath Low Traffic Neighbourhood Scheme to Become Permanent

Greenwich Council is planning to make the current low‑traffic neighbourhood (LTN) scheme in Greenwich and Blackheath permanent, even though traffic monitoring shows that side streets in Charlton have seen increased “rat‑running.” They propose making modifications — such as reopening Royal Hill and Blissett Street for through traffic, and allowing Blue Badge holders to register two vehicles — alongside mitigation measures to address traffic impacts on specific local roads.
