📰 The Hyperlocal News to Know
Parts of Elizabeth Line closed
The Elizabeth Line will be closed this weekend between Paddington and Abbey Wood or Stratford for engineering works, halting trains through central London and to Heathrow. Southeastern and Thameslink services will still run from Woolwich and Abbey Wood, though other routes, including Dartford to Rochester and parts of the DLR, will also face closures and replacement buses.
Woolwich Waterfront Leisure Centre to be demolished
Greenwich Council has confirmed that Woolwich’s Waterfront Leisure Centre will be demolished and the riverside site sold for housing once the new Woolwich Waves leisure complex opens next month. Councillors are expected to approve an outright sale to an unnamed residential developer, likely Berkeley Homes, with the council retaining some design influence but not taking part in a joint venture. Revised plans for nearby housing include five blocks up to 21 storeys with 557 homes—about a third for social rent—and the demolition of The Bull pub’s facade, while the redevelopment may also reshape local streets and expose the historic Woolwich Foot Tunnel entrance.
That’s it for this week.
